Celebcity with Jo Brooks: Albion launch new teams
Albion launch new teams, celebs line up for Rock ‘n’ Roll Bingo and new TV drama set in Brighton
Albion’s first community teams
I spent last Thursday up at The Amex, with first team players Tommy Elphick and Craig Mackail-Smith who were there to support the launch of the Albion’s very first community teams. Supported by Sussex financial services company, Wellesley Wealth Authority, the two teams will be recruited from Whitehawk and will play in the Sussex Sunday Youth League. Tommy and Craig, pictured here with Tony Hannigan of Wellesley’s and his fellow directors, are in the middle of pre-season training and took time out to meet the 52 strong youth squad and show their support for this brilliant project.
bingo rocks
Rock ‘n’ Roll Bingo is back! After last year’s event with June Brown (aka Dot Cotton) this unique evening returns to Concorde 2 on Saturday 11 August. Organised by Juice FM Presenter Guy Lloyd to raise money for the Sussex MS Centre, the night will include live music from Fran Classic, Sweet Sweet Lies and Mean Poppa Lean and a very special DJ set from Breakin’ Bears. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Bingo will be hosted by none other than Scotch egg enthusiast and part time Ali G impersonator – Keith from The Office (sometimes known as Ewan MacIntosh). Frankie Cocozza, Big Brother’s Pete Bennet and Kerry Mayo will also be in attendance on the night. Prizes include VIP tickets at The Amex, hotel stays at The Grand and Hilton Hotel, signed celebrity memorabilia and beauty treatments. Doors open at 8pm–3am and tickets are just £5, with all proceeds going to the Sussex MS Treatment Centre.
Crime drama in brighton
Brighton continues to be the real shining star of the south with the latest news about our seaside city is that it will soon be the location of a brand new TV drama. Think more Quadrophenia than The Gay Divorcee however, as Channel 4’s The Fear is set to explore the city’s criminal underworld. Richard E Grant is signed as the lead and BBC’s Wallander writer, Richard Cotton, also on side – we’re pretty sure it’s going to be a must watch. The hour long episodes will see Peter Mullan (from Tyrannosaur) as ex-crime lord Richie, attempt to rescue our dilapidated West Pier whilefighting off the Albanian mafia (as you do). With Grant pitched to play a plastic surgeon with a dark past and ex-EastEnder Paul Nicholls starring alongside him, the first wafts of gossip from the set sound hopeful. Filming has already started on location so keep your eyes peeled and let us know if you get any dirt on the upcoming series, watch this space.
SPOTTED
Tom Pellereau, The Apprentice 2011 winner, took time out of inventing new products for Lord Sugar to grab a bite in Fellini, Hove. The reality star was meeting his Olympic torch runner pal and the two decided to grab a quick meal in the Italian restaurant. The manager of Fellini suggested that Tom tried using the Olympic torch as a cheese grater, and he did!
a mog’s life
Okay so she’s not quite a coverstar (yet) but Millie the cat is making like Madonna and getting her Vogue on. The Bengal moggy from Brighton has just completed her first photoshoot with the huge fashion magazine, prowling and purring for legendary photographer Graeme Montgomery. The shoot, for a glamorous jewellery spread, needed Millie’s purrrfect paws alongside a few (not quite so important) models. Millie has shown herself to be a natural in front of the camera, being able to, “purr, yawn and strike poses on demand,” according to her owner Jo-Rosie Haffenden. But Millie isn’t the only famous furry face in their household – with their pitbull terrier set to become a star of silver screen too. The canine thespian was working on a film when his owner was approached to use Millie’s charms. Since then the model cat has signed to an agent and been upgraded to a brand new bag. She truly is the cat what got the cream!
