Film: Ted (15)
Director: Seth MacFarlane
From the old adage: be careful what you wish for, you might just get it – comes this brand new comedy from the makers of Family Guy. Mix that history with this certificate and you can be sure there will be some adult humour, but at a very childish level, along with the general story which starts with John as a child and his best friend – his teddy bear. You know when you wished your teddy bear was alive? You probably didn’t think that if that particular dream came true he’d still be by your side well into adulthood and proving a bit of a stumbling block with the drop dead gorgeous girlfriend you’ve jammily got. Oops.
Yes, Ted was a bit of a celebrity when he first appeared on the scene but now, like his 35-year-old roomie, he’s living in the sunshine of past glories, watching too much Flash Gordon and getting stoned. He’s that kind of teddy.
Starring Mark Wahlberg as John, Mila Kunis as long-suffering girlfriend Lori and Seth MacFarlane (you, know, actor, director and writer of this and Family Guy) providing the voice of the furry, mischief-loving gooseberry, Ted, this off-the-wall flick is already being called a return to form for the anarchic MacFarlane.
Released Friday 3 August
Showing at Duke Of York’s Picturehouse, Odeon and Cineworld
