Bolney Wine Estate café & tasting room launch
To add to their popular tours, Bolney Wine estate launched their new café and wine tasting room on 19 July. The estate, which won a ‘Gold Outstanding Medal’ at the prestigious International Wine and Spirits Competition this year, is a family run business. Gold medals for Sussex alumni
Booker Prize winning novelist Ian McEwan, former President of Botswana Festus Mogae, Turner Prize-winning artist and the UK’s 2013 representative at the Venice Biennale, Jeremy Deller are all alumni of Sussex, and were presented with special 50th anniversary Gold Medals, marking the extraordinary achievement of individuals connected with the University of Sussex. The medals were presented at a ceremony at Brighton Pavilion on Tuesday 17 July, on the eve of the University’s three-day summer graduation.

Mini Grand Prix
TR Fastenings, a leading global manufacturer and distributor of industrial fastenings, played host to the Uckfield Mini Grand Prix 2012 in the car park of its head offices on Sunday 15 July. Blessed by good weather, hundreds of supporters turned out to watch the Mini Grand Prix teams from 20 local primary schools race around TR Fastenings’ car park which had been transformed into a mini racing track. Nutley Primary School was the overall winner of the day.

Eco Festival celebrating 20 years of Magpie
Magpie Recycling Cooperative has been operating for 20 years and held an Eco Festival on Saturday 14 July to celebrate. Great bands included Chicken Shed Zeplin, Thee Orphans, Triple Chicken Combo, Mauve and Lucy and The Scamps; workshops included circus skills, how to build a vertical garden using a pallet, sociocratic working, woodland skills, pond dipping and something special from Feral Theatre. www.magpie.coop
