Ondatropica

After a slow start, Ondatropica—the multi-generational Columbian version of the Buena Vista Social Club—got into their groove and got the audience dancing with their unusual Latino covers of ‘Do Think I’m Sexy’ and Black Sabbath’s ‘Iron Man’. However, it’s when this 12-piece ensemble play more traditional tunes that the band’s energy really sparks, igniting the audience. The mix of old and young musicians felt at odds at times and the brass section was wasted, hidden at the back. Regardless, it’s hard to resist their hip-swaying rhythms and the audience was left with a smile in their faces.
