Celebcity with Jo Brooks: Special K’s at The Roundhouse
Special K’s at The Roundhouse, my Luca is given the boot and Alexandra Burke is lined up for Pride
Biggins’ boys
We are so excited about this one: the much-loved Christopher Biggins is set to direct the upcoming Theatre Royal show The Boys In The Band (22–31 August). The groundbreaking gay play, later turned into a film classic, shocked and thrilled audiences in the late 1960s and is now set to excite our sunny city. Expect spectacular costumes, hysterical routines and outrageous comedy, all introduced by the legendary Maisie Trollette. A perfect Pride aperitif!
Boys in bands
Congratulations to local band The Special K’s who hit the big time last week supporting Jessie J at the fabulous Camden Roundhouse. We’ve had our eyes on them for a while and its great to see them going from strength to strength.
Brighton’s music talent doesn’t show signs of stopping any time soon with local lad Hobbie Stuart finally beginning to release much awaited tracks from his upcoming album. Stuart – who follows in the footsteps of the likes of Rizzle Kicks and Conor Maynard by recording and releasing videos via the internet from his hometown of Brighton – has already built up a huge fanbase online. The latest release is a song he penned himself called ‘July Rain’ – which marks a definite detour from his earlier cover versions. It’s said to be a single from his upcoming debut album set to launch summer next year – hurry up, please!
Given the boot
My Luca hit the headlines last week when he was pictured holding none other than John Terry’s football boot! After watching the friendly between Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea at the Amex last week, Luca called the football star over for an autograph but he got more than he expected! After signing away for a few fans Terry took off his right and (favoured) left boot and handed them to Luca and another boy. You can imagine how excited we all were! Luca is now going to display the boot at his school for all to see.
Can’t hardly wait!
Hot X Factor winner Alexandra Burke has been announced as joining the line-up for this year’s Pride in Brighton and Hove. The three time number one hit star will perform in the 3,000 capacity Revenge Girls on Top Pop Tent.
