Comedy: Krater Comedy Club

Komedia’s flagship weekend comedy club promises a brilliant mid August line-up – of course

Komedia’s Krater Comedy Club is something of a weekend staple, so much so it’s easy to take it for granted. However with names like Reginald D Hunter, Greg Davies, Sarah Millican, Shappi Khorsandi, Susan Calman, and Jack Whitehall all playing there last year that would be a folly, and a disservice to your funny bones.

Resident MC Stephen Grant and the team at Komedia ensure they get the best names on the comedy circuit playing there, a lot of the time on thier last tour of club gigs before they get too big to play anything smaller than the Brighton Dome’s Concert Hall or the Brighton Centre. This could be your last chance to see them in a club environment, which is where comedy truly thrives.

This weekend enjoys a mix of familiar names off the telly and Next Big Things, in the form of award-winning Francesca Martinez (Friday to Saturday), Ninia Benjamin from 3 Non-Blondes (Friday to Sunday), award-winning Tom Allen (Sunday), as well as George Egg (Friday to Saturday) and Dave Twentyman (Friday to Saturday). These acts are hand-picked and firm favourites, which is why Krater keeps getting the good names and the packed audiences. It’s got a good reputation on both sides of the stage.

With special meal deals available for most shows, it’s well worth booking in advance to get yourself a good table reserved.

Seriously, if you find an old Komedia flyer in the bottom of your bag from last year, have a look through at the names of the comics at Krater. You’ll be sure to recognise quite a few there from this week’s TV listings.

Komedia, Friday 17 August, 8pm, £23.50 (meal-deal)/£14.50/£11.50; Saturday 18 August, 7.30pm £29 (meal-deal)/£20 and 11pm, £10/£7/£5; Sunday 19 August, 8pm, £20.50 (meal-deal)/£11.50/£6.50/£5
