Film: Total Recall (12A)

Director: Len Wiseman

Underworld series director and writer Wiseman steps away from the vampires and into the science fantasy world of this big-budget remake of the 1990 Arnie classic (who can forget him standing over Sharon Stone uttering the immortal line: “Consider that a divorce”?). Anyway, this is the new version with its own tweaks and twists, controversially not going anywhere near Mars, where a lot of the original was set, and focusing instead on a considerably less muscle-bound star in the form of Colin Farrell.

Farrell plays Doug Quaid, a factory worker, who decides to invest in a little escapism with a few implanted fake memories. He wants to be a spy an’ that. The thing is, it doesn’t take him long to twig that things aren’t quite as they should be with these memories and they might not be as unreal as he’s been led to believe. Also starring Underworld regulars Kate Beckinsale and Bill Nighy, plus Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston and Bokeem Woodbine.

Released Friday 24 August
Showing at Odeon and Cineworld
