Events: Pride 2012

The biggest LGBT celebration returns with an unforgettable line-up

It’s the 20th anniversary of Pride Brighton and Hove and this year’s theme, The United Colours of Pride, sees the line-up looking unforgettable. Celebrations means Preston Park is transformed into one of the largest LGBT park events in Europe, with the likes of Alexandra Burke, Freemasons and Fatboy Slim performing.

Traditionally the Pride Parade kick-starts the festivities as it starts from Madeira Drive next to the Brighton Wheel, and follows King’s Road, West Street and North Street down to the Old Steine and then the A23 up to Preston Park.

Former X Factor winner Alexandra Burke makes a welcome return to play the Pop Tent, which is hosted by Revenge club-night girls Girls On Top. It will be fitted with amazing sound and lighting for her return appearance to Pride.

International superstar DJ Fatboy Slim will headline the Wild Fruit Big Top along with the Grammy nominated Freemasons. Both of these renowned talents continue to support their home city of Brighton and Hove, establishing themselves with the LGBT community as true Brighton royalty.

Other Pride highlights include the award-winning Dame Edna Experience, who will perform in the Legends Cabaret tent, performing flawless tributes to everyone from Karen Carpenter to Barbara Streisand. Dame Edna joins an excellent line-up of local and national talent throughout the day in the Legends tent, including Lola Lasagne, Dave Lynn, Maisie Trolette, Titti La Camp, Miss Jason and more.

Be sure to check out the Bears Tent, known for its exceptional house music policy featuring eight of the best male DJs in Brighton, and the Calabash Tent, which raises the profile of the Black and Minority Ethnic community in the city. Calabash has a stellar line-up, so expect urban dance, bhangra, grime, R’n’B and soul.
