Brighton Pride 2012
After a period of not attending Brighton Pride in Preston Park, this year I chose to return. My absence was political, I was hating the politics, but all that seems to have been resolved, money is making its way to charities and the core of what Pride always was; political and social campaigning are back and it is all the better for that. Ticketing, contentious as it has been, does mean that it feels safer and by Sunday the park was cleaner than ever before at that stage. On the day I had fun but I have to bemoan the lack of a focal point, a main stage for those of us who value our ear drums and don’t want to dance and I was slightly mystified in the market by a woman with a sex toy strapped to her knee???. Bars were easy to access, but at £4 a beer pricey, and I missed being able to take my own picnic, as I do not wish to eat the food on offer. All that said, three hearty cheers for the return of a Pride that can once again be proud.
