The perky poppet eschewed her usual melodica and accordion in favour of an electric guitar for the opening night of her tour. Two Nuggets style garage rockers kickstarted a set mostly pulled from the latest album ‘Geronimo’. ‘River Song’ about her native Kansas was a chirpy cowboy number complete with “Yippee Ki-Yays” and several songs were authentic sixties girl-group bubblegum bliss. The band were in a playful mood throughout and were given room to rock out on ’40 Days & Nights’, with a member of the audience helping out the guitarist, before a celebratory encore sent us home smiling.
