The real ale revolution

Forget sipping cocktails and wearing a LBD on a night out ladies, ale is the new black, say Langham Brewery with more women drinking it than ever before, proving real ale is not just for men who want to put hair on their chest!

Madonna sips it when she is in the UK and Jodie Kidd drinks it in her local Sussex pub in Wisborough. Are locally brewed craft ales the latest drink of choice for women and reaching a younger, more discerning market?

The latest Small Independent Brewers Association (SIBA) reported that 2012 shows a 9.5% growth in local beer production for its members in 2009 and 2010. SIBA estimates further growth for 2011 of 9.7%.

Langham Brewery is a local and independent 10 barrel micro brewery. Based in an 18th Century barn, it nestles in the South Downs between the Sussex towns of Midhurst and Petworth in Sussex. Langham prides itself on its innovative, distinctive and flavoursome real ales. It uses only the finest quality ingredients and traditional brewing methods.

Langham Brewery’s own experience already challenges the pre-conception that ale is just for men. Since the brewery was established in 2005 an increasing number of women are visiting the brewery for tours and tastings. The brewery is actively supporting the movement to encourage women drinkers to break away from what have historically been seen as “women’s drinks” and to develop a taste for delicious real ale.

Lesley, one of the three Langham partners explains: “The old image of men in flat caps drinking monotonous brown brews is long gone. As a woman I don’t think style and flavour of beers should be gender specific. If you like a taste go for it!

“At the brewery we try to brew something for everyone. Highest quality hops and malt guarantees a quality product, but just like life –some Gentlemen prefer blondes (a deliciously dry and hoppy brew like Hip Hop) –and some women prefer a darker stronger combination (smooth and malty Best) or vice versa.

“Combine this with eye catching pump clips and branding, our Langham swallow, psychedelic LSD or acid green Hip Hop pump clip, and it’s a winning combination that appeals to the tastebuds and the eye in more than 200 pubs across the south of England.”
With so many reasons to drink real ale, Langham would like to invite their new female fans and all lovers of great flavoursome beer, young and old to visit their Brewery in Petworth, Sussex and see how their delicious real ales are made. The real ale revolution has begun!
