Lifelong learning opportunities at City College Brighton & Hove
We are spoilt for choice with Adult Education opportunities at City College Brighton and Hove, with 300 part-time courses that cover both leisure and professional business qualifications. The College offers a wide range of part-time business courses, specially designed for the real business world and with industry recognised certificates. Also on offer are a variety of Adult Leisure courses, providing opportunities to explore hobbies, get creative, develop new skills or even learn a new language.
“Lifelong Learning is something that I feel passionately about”, says newly-appointed Principal Lynn Thackway. “City College is at the heart of the local community, so while there’s obviously a big focus on providing 16 to 18-year-olds with the type of skills and qualifications that employers are looking for, the College is also committed to helping adults transform their lives through education in a welcoming and supportive environment.”
Since the College’s new Adult Education prospectus was launched in the summer, demand for places has been high, but there are still opportunities to enrol on a diverse range of courses. The College’s Hair, Beauty & Holistics department is offering part-time courses in Anatomy & Physiology, Nail Technology, Indian Head Massage and Complimentary Therapies, while on the creative side there are opportunities to study Art & Design, Photography, Music Production, Singing for Pleasure, Pottery & Pattern-cutting. Those in need of professional qualifications for the workplace can enrol on Food Safety, Law, Team-leading or Line Management courses and when it comes to practical skills, there are places available on maintenance, plastering and electrical courses too.
Those interested in pursuing a career in teaching post-16/adult students may be interested in the Certificate in Education PGCE qualification, and for aspiring journalists there are still places available on NCTJ Journalism courses, which put students in the best possible position for either getting that first job with a magazine, newspaper or website, or for making it as a freelancer.
For those wanting to enhance their IT skills, there are introductory courses in PHP and HTML, CSS & Java Script available. Also, for speakers of other languages who want to go to a UK university, the IELTS qualification covers the study skills and research methods needed for graduate or undergraduate study in the UK. As for languages, the College is still recruiting for its courses in Japanese, Greek, Swedish and Italian. There are opportunities aplenty.
