The Galleons

With the September rain battering Kemp Town this evening, the atmosphere was perfect for the sea-faring sounds of Brighton’s Galleons. Currently drummer-less, the folk-pop quintet’s autumnal music is stripped back from their recent album, but the sparse approach suits their delicate tunes well. Despite suffering from a cold, frontman Ben Brockett held things together warmly, his singing holding up unaffected alongside vocal partner Beth Chesser. Rippling piano patterns and light sparring between bass and guitar added splashes of colour to the calming oceanic feel of the songs. Their understated set carried some wicked humour too, making for great company tonight.
