Brighton community centre given grant from police lost property fund

A community centre in Brighton has been given a cheque for £250 from the police lost property fund.

PCSO Flo Woods, from the Brighton Neighbourhood Police Team, presented the cheque to the Pankhurst Haven Community Centre in Pankhurst Avenue, Brighton.

The Haven’s work with young people is credited with helping to reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour in the area.

Margaret Lucas, the Haven’s treasurer, said: “Every little penny helps and we are very grateful to Sussex Police for this donation.

“Our priority is to continue providing activities for local children and young people to help improve their life and we are keen to use residents to lead these activities in order to help bring the community together.”

PCSO Woods said: “By working in close partnership with the community association and Haven Centre we were able to give £250 funding.

“This money will go towards CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checks, insurance and buying kit for various activities that local people can use and benefit from and will have a real positive effect on the lives of the local community.”

The donation comes from the Sussex Police Property Act Fund. The fund is made up of money received by the police from the sale of found property and from property confiscated by order of the courts and then sold.
