You’re Only Young Twice
Brooksie (Melvyn Hayes) is a hell-raiser in his 60s, living life to the full and acting like a teenager to the exasperation of his daughter and son-in-law. It is a slight facade however, he’s still grieiving and talks with his dead wife who cannot ‘move on’ herself until he does. Unfortunately for this production, nothing seemed to move on at all. Hayes injected masses of energy and enthusiasm but the script was extremely dry, flat and predictable. As a consequence some of the acting was wooden/pedestrian or ‘acting by numbers’ and the highlights were few and far between. Good set though.
