Sussex cricket chief stands down
The chief executive of Sussex County Cricket Club is standing down after four years at the helm.
Dave Brooks will leave at the end of the year, the club said today (Tuesday 9 October).
Brooks joined the Club at the start of 2009, after 20 years in the food industry.
He was the first chief executive to be responsible for both Sussex County Cricket Club and the Sussex Cricket Board.
And, said the club, he has been part of another successful period in the club’s history.
On being appointed he was given four key tasks
- ensuring that the county remained competitive on the field
- seeing through the ground development
- improving the club’s commercial performance
- integrating professional, recreational and community cricket
The club said that his tenure had seen significant steps forward for the county as his drive, determination and commitment had helped enable the club to achieve those aims.
He said: “It has been a privilege to be part of cricket in Sussex for the last four years.
“As a team we can be proud of our achievements over that time, and in particular the most obvious improvement which is the new ground.
“Every time I walk in the gates I have a sense of pride as I see the new stand before me and I hope that those who follow me will feel the same.
“I believe that now is the time to hand over to allow the next person who has the pleasure of taking on this role time to bed in and take the club and cricket board on to the second phase of regeneration.
“The opportunity is massive and the foundation strong, making this one of the best roles in the sport.
“I will miss everyone associated with the club and offer special thanks to my chairman, the board, the staff and players, our devoted members and the fantastic sponsors for all their support and I wish everyone the very best of luck for a very exciting future.”
Club chairman Jim May said: “Dave Brooks has been a transformational chief executive.
“He has combined an astute business focus with an empathy and understanding for cricket at all levels.
“He masterminded the ground development of the County Ground at Hove into one of the best grounds in the country.
“Dave has been an outstanding chief executive who leaves Sussex with our very best wishes and in great shape for his successor.”
Sussex Cricket has started the process of seeking a replacement chief executive and details will be announced on the club’s website www.sussexcricket.co.uk this week.
