Brighton Photo Fringe: Escape Capsules & Mobile Captures

A new exhibition as part of Brighton Photo Fringe captures life through the lens… of an iPhone

As a professional photographer, James Pike carries around a big camera, lights and other equipment with the onus on sharp, high-res, precision pictures. Over the last few years, however, he has also rediscovered his love of photography, for its own sake – through his iPhone.

The exhibition features a series of black and white street photography, much of it of Brighton & Hove. All of the pictures were shot on an iPhone, and many have been featured on the global photo-sharing iPhone app, Instagram, on which he has built up a following of nearly 1,000 people around the world.
Exhibiting photographer James Pike is a commercial photographer whose images are quite ubiquitous in Brighton & Hove. If you have lived in the city for any length of time you will have seen his images on the exhibition posters for Brighton & Hove Museums, on the side of our Cityclean rubbish trucks, on the cover of the Electoral Services flyers put through every residents’ door; you will probably know someone whose wedding he has photographed too!

The exhibition also features the work of Brighton Based Fine Art photographer Tom Wichelow. His part of the exhibition, ‘Escape Capsules’ explores our fascination with mobile homes/camper vans etc and is shot on some of the last remaining 5’ by 4’ Polaroid film.

Escape Capsules & Mobile Captures exhibition is open now at StudioF in Hove.Tue-Weds 12pm-3pm, and Sat-Sun 12pm-3pm. www.jimpix.com
