Comic Strip
A good burlesque night takes great verve and swagger to stitch everything together. Knowing all about stitching – not least because of a wardrobe malfunction that he has to contend with during Saturday’s performance – is host Asher Treleaven: slick, funny and armed with a dangerous glint in his eye. The burlesque acts were all stunning, including Kitty Boom Boom, who managed to mix ballet moves with fire in a revolutionary (literally) way. Of the comics, who were all strong, the undisputed highlight was Terry Alderton, who delivered a blistering whirlwind of contradictions, managing at times to come across like a wounded grizzly bear.
