Film: Frankenweenie (PG)
Director: Tim Burton
It’s that Tim Burton time of year! When Autumn begins, the leaves start to brown and the evenings start to draw in, this is the time of year master of gothic entertainment Tim Burton makes magical. Not to be disappointed, his latest offering is full of re-animation, stop-motion and the voices of some of his favourite cast members, including Catherine O’Hara, Martin Landau and Winona Ryder. Just think of his past catalogue including Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Corpse Bride and Alice In Wonderland and you’ll know this is high calibre kookie coming your way.
Delivered in spooky black and white, Frankenweenie focuses on Victor (geddit – like Victor Frankenstein in Mary Shelley’s gothic classic?), a young boy devastated by the death of his beloved dog Sparky. Not one to let a thing like mortality get him down, clever old Victor determines to bring back his old friend using science. With a few tweaks to his doggy pal, re-animation is achieved, with far-reaching consequences upon his friends, family and entire neighbourhood.
