Danny Schmidt & Carrie Elkins
The intimate and little-known gem that is the West Hill Hall was the setting for this duo; partners in real life, as well as friends and house mates of the more well-known partnership of Paul Curreri and Devon Sproule. Oscillating between the songs of Elkins and Schmidt, and with plenty of good-time and amusing banter in-between, theirs is obviously a musical match made in heaven; Elkins more powerful voice providing backing for Schmidt’s relaxed, almost John Martynesque tones, and vice-versa. A relative latecomer to music-making, Schmidt is a tremendously fluid and melodic finger-picker, and a poet to boot, his songs displaying a deep empathy and understanding for the world around him, while Elkin’s more country style songs are the equal of her lover. Tremendous chemistry, outstanding songs, and two very warm singers and musicians trading and complimenting off each other.
