Brighton man suffers serious head injuries in bus accident

A 63-year-old Brighton man suffered serious head injuries when he was knocked down by a bus yesterday lunchtime (Sunday 21 October).

The accident happened at the junction of Old Steine and Castle Square in Brighton, near the bottom of North Street, just after 2pm.

The injured pedestrian was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious head injuries. He was transferred to Hurstwood Park Neurosciences Centre in Haywards Heath.

Traffic officers are investigating the cause of the accident. Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call Sussex Police on 101.

The accident happened close to where a 14-year-old Russian student was hit by a bus in August 2006.

Irina Kolmakova ran in front of the bus after looking the wrong way as she crossed the road. She died the next day from head injuries.
