Dar Williams and Nicky Mitchell

American singer/songwriter Dar Williams wowed a capacity crowd of passionate fans at her first performance in Brighton on Saturday night. Now in her 40s Dar started out on the open mic scene but was soon touring with her unique brand of poetic, emotional folk. Politically conscious and culturally aware she is dreamy and chatty, delivering entertaining and touching stories between each song. As a newcomer to her music I was a little underwhelmed by the tracks I downloaded but her live show completely won me over. Brighton’s Nicky Mitchell provided brilliant support during this evening of intelligent and wonderful music.
