Let’s do the time warp, Rocky Horror Show
Throw caution to the wind this festive season and embrace the wild eccentricities of The Rocky Horror Show at Theatre Royal Brighton
The Rocky Horror Show, the world’s favourite rock ‘n’ roll musical, is back by popular demand! A fresh new production celebrating the show’s 40th anniversary runs at Theatre Royal Brighton from Thursday 20 December to Saturday 5 January. The show will then embark on a year-long UK tour. The boldest bash of them all this Christmas, this musical extravaganza features song classics including ‘Science Fiction/Double Feature’, ‘Dammit Janet’ and, of course, the timeless floor-filler, ‘The Time Warp’.
The Rocky Horrow Show tells the story of two squeaky clean college kids, Brad and Janet, who meet Dr Frank ‘n’ Furter when their car breaks down outside his house. There follows an adventure they’ll never forget, with fun, frolics, frocks and frivolity, bursting with timeless songs and outrageous outfits.
The Rocky Horrow Show was first performed on June 19, 1973 at the Royal Court Theatre. It was an immediate success, transferring to three London theatres, and was then transformed into the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. This film adaptation took over $135 million at the Box Office and is still shown in cinemas around the world nearly 37 years after its premiere, making it the longest running theatrical release in film history.
Many stars, including Russell Crowe, Tim Curry, Jerry Springer and Meatloaf have appeared in the show over the past 40 years. The Rocky Horrow Show is a guaranteed party, combining science-fiction, horror, comedy and music, and is sure to both shock and delight. Feel free to get dressed up in your most outrageous fancy dress, and join in the fun. But be warned, this show has rude bits!
