No Jacket Required – The Phil Collins Tribute

To some Phil Collins represents everything that’s bad in music; a symbol of over-bloated bland stadium rock with tediously mawkish songs. This oversimplification does him a disservice, he’s an easy target for lazy journalists. Scratch the surface, as this tribute dared to do, and you’ll find hidden or forgotten gems. Of course they covered the huge hits from Collins’ solo and latter Genesis output. But they also had the musical ability to cover (albeit in part) one of ‘prog rocks’ great albums (‘Lamb Lies Down On Broadway’) in amongst a medley from other early-mid Genesis including ‘Duke’ and ‘Abacab’. A job well done.
