Strap In, It’s Clever Peter Live!

This award-winning sketch group recently announced their first BBC Radio 4 series, after years of collecting sketches, honing their art and putting in the funny legwork. And yet they still feel fresh and if they’re enjoying every moment on stage. Corpsing played a part in this, but so did the energy, dancing in the dark as they re-dressed the stage between scenes, and their evident fun-having as they took right-turns into punchlines in such diverse settings as a Western saloon and a rather splendid goldfish bowl. Admittedly, their female characters, although more profligate than previously, were not as rounded and were with a feel of Monty Python-style foils in contrast to the empathetic male characters the chaps had rapidly constructed. But I’m sure, as they have kept growing and finding new ways to entertain, this will not be a permanent state of affairs.
