Woman attacked in Brighton street

A student was attacked in the centre of Brighton yesterday (Wednesday 31 October) after a night out.

The 28-year-old woman was held by a man who tried to kiss her at about 2.45am shortly after she left a club.

Sussex Police said that the incident was being treated as a sexual assault.

The woman was making her way to the bus stops in Old Steine when she was approached by a man who tried to grab her.

She walked away but at the next junction, with Castle Square, near the bottom of North Street, he took hold of her for several seconds while trying to kiss her.

When he let her go he left the scene on foot.

The suspect is described as Asian, in his twenties, 5ft 9in tall, having short dark hair with spikes at the end, clean shaven, pitted scarred skin on his jaw line and brown eyes. He was wearing dark clothes including possibly a leather jacket.

PC Alex Mitchell said: “This was a most unpleasant experience for the woman and she was badly upset though not physically injured.

“We are treating this as a sexual assault and want to find this man.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
