Patcham school boy wins national photography competition

A pupil from Patcham Junior School in Brighton is one of the winners in National Historic Ships UK’s 2012 photography competition.

Ten-year-old Zach Grainger scooped first prize in the Primary Schools category for his entry, Victory, and was rewarded with a digital camera for his school courtesy of Olympus.

Commenting on the 2012 Young Photographer category, Martyn Heighton, Director of National Historic Ships UK, said: “We were astounded by the standard of entries received, which made the judges’ decisions very difficult but Zach’s entry was chosen as the winner of the primary schools category with his image truly capturing the judges’ attention.”

Pleased by the award, Zach Grainger said: “I love photography and I couldn’t wait to get snapping when I went on a day out with my mum to Portsmouth Docks.”
