Armed robber escapes with cash from Hove off-licence

A man armed with a knife stole £170 and cigarettes from an off-licence in Hove yesterday evening (Friday 2 November).

The slim white thief jumped the counter at York House Wines in Richardson Road, Hove, at about 6.20pm.

He pulled a knife and threatened the man working behind the counter before taking the cash from the till and swiping some cigarettes.

The member of staff didn’t see which way the thief went when he left the shop but described him as being in his late twenties.

Sussex Police said that the staff member was shaken but unhurt and that no customers were believed to have been in the off-licence at the time.

Detective Inspector Miles Ockwell appealed for help from anyone who was in the area at the time and either saw the incident or saw a man acting suspiciously or running away.

Witnesses can contact Sussex Police on 101 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
