Speaky Spokey

The ever-wonderful Speaky Spokey relocated to Brighton Dome this month but lost none of its intimate and fun atmosphere. The candlelit room was packed with local and international talent including award-winning Brighton poet Rachel Rooney and elegant American writer Jarred McGinnis. Music, entertainment and weirdness were provided by harmonium playing shadow puppeteer Matthew Robins and avant-garde poet Gilli Bloodaxe, whose sidekick Foz played the musical saw. Chinese-Jamaican author Kerry Young read from her compelling debut novel ‘Pao’ and a signed copy immediately found its way into my bag and my heart. Brighton’s favourite spoken word cabaret delivered yet again. Fabulous.
