Take stock
As the nights draw in, the natural world curls down and envelops itself in a period of rest, recuperation and recovery. Our bodies also need time to nurture and replenish. November is a time for looking inwards, taking stock of your life and health and building reserves for the darkest, coldest, yet somehow most beautiful season ahead.

Water your roots
In eastern medicine, the chakra – or energy centre – relating to your foundations is Muladhara, the root chakra. This chakra governs all the basic areas of your life: health, home, work and even finance.

Working on your root chakra may not be exciting, but I think it is deeply rewarding. See your chakra as a tree; water it so its roots grow strong and it will leaf and blossom in the spring. To restore your energy for regrowth, you need first to check your root chakra is in balance.

General signs that the root chakra needs attention are poor health, lethargy, depression, insecurity, problems with work, money, family or home life and physical discomfort in the lower half of the body from the lower back downwards. Does any of this sound like where you are at present? Make an effort now and you’ll feel stronger in time for the run-up to Christmas, and any stress or feelings of loneliness it may bring.

Find the balance
A simple technique to optimise and balance your root chakra is to visualise being bathed in the colour red during meditation. Imagine drawing energy from above your head down to your toes and into the earth. Then bathe your aura in a bright red light.
Being barefoot so that you physically connect to the earth (outdoors, if possible) and standing tall are also powerful techniques, especially when you visualise yourself as a strong, sturdy tree with deep roots. Also, eating natural, organic foods resonates completely with this chakra.

Treat yourself
You could also try a healing Muladhara treatment at the EcoSpa. It is a unique, holistic treatment I’ve developed using our exclusive Chakrosanct oil blend. On special offer at £55 for the month of November, that’s £10 off.

Finally, we are developing our literary side at the spa and have a few books in stock which are very relevant to the root chakra. ‘When I Loved Myself Enough’ by Kim McMillen and ‘You Can Heal your Body’ by Louise Hay spring to mind…
Spread those roots and flourish.
