Spiritualized
Jason Pierce’s semi-psychedelic band Spiritualized are at their best when the audience can immerse themselves in the grand vistas of sound which morph and crescendo as they cling doggedly to the semi-epic themes which serve as songs. The Corn Exchange, unfortunately, is fundamentally an oversized village hall, the muddy and indistinct sound matching the homespun aesthetic. It was only during the final few numbers that the show delivered, as the sonic and visual attack reached out and tried to persuade the audience that it was the music and not that teenaged moment which had brought them out on this chilly November night.
