Jessie Ware

It turned out to be a homecoming show for Jessie Ware on her very first UK tour. The Sussex University graduate confessed to being a regular at drum’n’bass nights at Concorde 2, where tonight she played almost all of her Mercury nominated début album to a sold out crowd.

Being as personable as she is talented, Ware kept up the banter between the strikingly tender pop soul ballads that litter ‘Devotion’, as well as a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ for collaborator Dave Okumu. The atmosphere felt a little flat at times, as is often the case with songs of a mid tempo pace, but her nuanced and ultimately faultless vocal performance more than made up for this.
