The Staves
The Staveley-Taylor sisters have come a long way since they supported Michael Kiwanuka on this very stage: a well-received debut album, a spot on ‘Later’ and now headlining in front of a sardine-room-only capacity crowd.
The set covered light Laurel Canyon folk pop, straight ahead country on new single ‘Tongue Behind My Teeth’ and textured traditional numbers; all executed with layered harmonies that gently intertwined with their own accompaniment and the whipping boys on bass and drums.
The more stripped-down songs really highlighted their beautiful voices and their surprisingly filthy banter turned the air blue. Beware, these canaries bite.
