Mac DeMarco
Coming to stage burping and swigging on beer cans, the ever-charming Mac DeMarco kicked off his first Brighton show in typical unpretentious and ramshackle style. Flanked by a backing band and playing to a crowd brimming with anticipation for this rising star, he kicked off his set that drew heavily from his latest album, the laconically titled ‘2’. Banter between the band loosened up what was initially a static crowd, as did early big hitters like ‘Ode to Viceroy’, a lo-fi slackers’ sonnet to his favourite brand of tobacco. After some perilous crowd-surfing, parody guitar solos and an impromptu Police cover, the myth of the Mac was masterfully sealed.
