New moon
SStraight from topping The Sunday Times’ Style hot list, LA-based band Haim took to the stage at The Haunt Brighton last week to show us what they’re all about. It was a night of up-and-coming music – with local band Kill Moon having the privilege to support the ‘three sisters and a mister’ before they become their own headliners on a 2013 tour. Attending the packed out gig with the lovely Brianna Fryer, Kill Moon’s some time stylist and art director, we pushed to the front to get right up close and personal with the band. Made up of female front(wo)man Izzy Phillips, guitarist Chris Ostler and bass player Tommy Taylor, Kill Moon list their influences from The Beatles to Nirvana, with a love of ‘dirty guitars, big drums, post-punk, grunge, the Universe and all of its many mysteries’. I’m a sucker for female fronted bands any way, but Kill Moon are really doing it for me at the moment. With songs such as ‘Jupiter’ and ‘Home’ showcasing the band’s signature filthy rock sound, with just a hint of the extra-terrestrial, Kill Moon are starting to make – as NME helpfully put it – “pretty immediate waves”. If you haven’t caught them at their previous sell-out shows in Brighton keep an eye out for tour dates as they embark on the live circuit in 2013. For more info visit www.killmoon.co.uk
Stars go vintage
With Lady Gaga revisiting that Versace safety pin dress (Elizabeth Hurley: 1994) and Natalie Portman shining in vintage Dior on the red carpet at The Oscars this year, it’s certain that the vintage trend shows no sign of stopping.
We popped down to The Very Vintage Fair in Rottingdean Village hall last week to stock up in time for Christmas. Run by Elif Kose, who owns the dressmakers in the village, The Very Vintage Fair pops up from time to time showcasing its unique fashion picks. Keep an eye out for the next one soon!
Peaches Vs Katie
Peaches Geldof became the latest lady to clash heads – via Twitter of course – with Brighton girl Katie Price last week. Responding to Miss Price’s criticism of Peaches decision to allow her baby near their Labrador (which she posted a photo of on the online forum) Bob Geldof’s less-than-shy daughter let rip. Mastering the act of the indirect tweet, she ranted, ‘Funny that Katie Price aka “Jordan” (lol) thinks that I shouldn’t allow my gentle, sweet golden retriever dog near his best friend, my son-’ ‘- I could say the same thing to her about letting some of the multitude of “boyfriends” she has near her kids’. The tirade then ended with Geldof critiquing Jordan’s inability to don underwear – exclaiming ‘a female role model for the times if ever I saw one, and of course the perfect person to be lecturing me about my mothering skills. Er… yes, well – she does have a point…

Alex airs his dirty laundry
Oh, and in case you still cared about the whole Alex Reid/ Chantelle debacle he has now admitted to having slept with prostitutes and sleeping with men in the past. Not interested? No, neither were we, but that doesn’t stop the Reidster from airing his dirty (male or female) laundry in public.
