Comedy: Jethro
Old school comic Jethro comes to Eastbourne, along with another Eastbourne comedy night to check out
Love him or hate him, Jethro has been in the business of show for some years now as a part of the old guard of comedy touring and is still going strong with DVD sales and live shows. He is, after all, Jim Davidson’s favourite storyteller – which in itself will give you a fair idea of the kind of content to expect. In fact, when guesting on The Generation Game Jethro was also involved in one of the show’s longest sequences of out-takes, seeing him and Davidson repeatedly collapsing into fits of giggles.
He may be a little blue and politically incorrect for TV but his fans love him, and after 19 DVD releases (this might be your chance to stock up on Crimbo pressies) he delivers a strong live show peppered with his trademark Cornish slang terms, as well as a few songs thrown in.
It’s well worth keeping an eye on Eastbourne theatres for a spot of laughter as on the very same night is Eastbourne’s monthly laughter-house Screaming Blue Murder Comedy Club, with the last assembly promising to be a cracker! Master of the razor-sharp one-liner, Gary Delaney is joined by Sally Anne Hayward, with her insights into the female psyche not mention her compulsion for sending off spoof job applications, and Joe Lycett – nominated for this year’s Best Newcomer award at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Jethro, Thursday 29 November, Congress Theatre, Eastbourne, 7.30pm, £19.50; Screaming Blue Murder Comedy Club, Congress Theatre, Eastbourne, 9pm, £9, www.eastbournetheatres.co.uk
