Peter Hook & The Light
Very few people got the chance to see Joy Division, who lasted less than three years from 77-80 (although one fellow gig goer reminisced about seeing them supporting The Buzzcocks at the Top Rank – now Oceania…) so here was an opportunity to see a kind of ‘tribute’ show, albeit featuring original member Peter Hook. Taking on the singing duties of original singer Ian Curtis – and succeeding admirably – Hook, his son (also on bass) and the rest of band blazed through Joy Division’s first album ‘Unknown Pleasures’, plus various singles, b-sides and rarities, before finishing inevitably with ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’. A good sound, heavier than the original JD, but still impacting depth and atmosphere, was all that was needed to please the largely 50ish hordes of men and the sprinkling of younger ones looking to see what all the fuss is about…
