Storm and flood warning issued for Brighton and Hove seafront
The Met Office has issued a warning that parts of the seafront in Brighton and Hove could be flooded.
It said that strong winds would coincide with a spring tide shortly before 11.30am today (Friday 14 December).
Southwesterly winds of 45mph have been forecast while sea levels could also be higher as a result of low pressure.
Brighton and Hove City Council said: “It means seawater could overflow shingle on Brighton beach and breach the sea wall near Hove’s King Alfred Leisure Centre.
“Waves are expected to dump tons of shingle onto the prom.
“High tide is at 11.25am. People are being urged to take extreme caution near the seafront and stay off the beach during the storm.
“Council officials are contacting seafront businesses urging them to make sure people are kept safe and premises secure.”
The Met Office warning was issued late yesterday morning (Thursday 13 December) and is valid from 6am to 3pm today.
