A 61-year-old man has been charged with trying to rob staff as they left the post office in the Old Village in Portslade.

Homeless Peter Deere, 61, was due to appear before Brighton magistrates today (Monday 17 December) charged with attempted robbery and assault by beating.

He is accused of trying to snatch a briefcase from staff as they left the post office in South Street at lunchtime on Saturday (15 December).

PC Julian Harrison-Jones said: “We are keen to talk to anyone who witnessed the incident.”

He urged anyone who could help to call Sussex Police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
