Brighton crash leaves woman with life-threatening injuries

A 19-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries in an accident on Brighton seafront late last night (Monday 31 December).

The woman was knocked over at the junction of West Street and King’s Road shortly after 11pm by a white Vauxhall Movano van.

She was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and later transferred to Hurstwood Park Neurosciences Centre in Haywards Heath.

Today (Tuesday 1 January) Sussex Police said that the woman, who comes from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, was in a critical condition.

The van driver, a 33-year-old man from Brighton, was unhurt in the crash.

Sussex Police said that the westbound side of the A259 King’s Road was closed for two hours while rescue and investigation work took place.
