Celeb City: Sir Elton John

2012 celebrity highlights & Sir Elton John joins the audience in a local pub to watch new musical talent

What a year!
2012 was a great year here at JBPR and we want to send all our best wishes to everyone we’ve worked with this past year. Here’s a little run down of our 2012 highlights…

January saw JBPR get involved in the launch of a long time Brighton gem in the East end of London. Gresham Blake’s bespoke tailors opened a store on Commercial Street in Shoreditch with a star-studded party that went with a bang. Brighton resident Steve Coogan, the talented Mitch Winehouse and party host Ray Winstone all popped by for a cocktail.

In March we joined forces with Peter Andre and SodaStream to raise awareness of plastic bottle waste for Climate Week. Pete posed against a 26ft sculpture made of plastic bottles on Brighton seafront to highlight the issue and its devastating effects on UK coastlines. The whole stunt was caught on camera for Peter Andre’s ITV2 show, with JBPR’s presence more than prevalent throughout! It’s been a tumultuous year for Andre and our best wishes and love go out to him and his family following the passing of his brother.

Norman Cook’s Big Beach Bootique 5 gig in June was undoubtedly a huge highlight of JBPR’s 2012 Calender. Bringing together the finest names in house, techno, bass and dance music, including The 2 Bears, Maya Jane Coles, Luciano, Carl Cox, Union, Doorly, Jaguar Skills, DJ Fresh and Annie Mac. Superstar English duo Nero tore up the stage as the penultimate act of the killer weekend. Fatboy’s set blew the Amex away and Saturday was a fitting finale to our weekend. Let’s hope we can look forward to BBB6 soon!

September saw us work with the fantastic Peace One Day organisation on their concert for Peace 2012, headlined by the one-and-only Sir Elton John! Between making sure Sir Elton was looked after and guiding Jude Law through the press room we were able to meet the likes of Lily Cole, Eliza Doolittle and Hove local and singer-songwriter James Morrison. We loved the concert, with the JBPR girls left watching ‘Your Song’ from the side of the stage as the crowd cheered on. The after party thrown by Peace One Day founder Jeremy Gilley saw the likes of Jude Law and Sean Pertwee come together to celebrate the amazing success of the day.

Fishlove: The newly titled Moshimo restaurant Brighton hit the headlines throughout 2012 with their fabulous Fishlove project. In collaboration with the actress Greta Scacchi, Moshimo got the rich and famous to strip off to raise awareness against overfishing. Launched in June 2009, the Fishlove Photographic Project is a series of striking photographs which feature naked celebrities holding dead fish, which were printed in The Sun, The Mirror, The Telegraph and The Daily Mail this year. The Fishlove images were taken by the world-famous fashion photographer Rankin and feature the likes of Jerry Hall, Lizzy Jagger, Sir Ben Kingsley and Mark Foster among many others, cradling everything from fish to crustaceans. An exhibition held at Pertwee Anderson and Gold gallery saw the likes of Olympic swimmer Mark Foster, actress Dakota Blue Richards and model Jade Parfitt pose in front of their fishlove counterparts whilst enjoying Moshimo sushi and Asahi beer.

These are only a few of the amazing events we were thrilled to work on in 2012 and by the looks of things 2013 is likely to be even better! Please keep in touch with us on the new year by following us @JBPR_ We look forward to hearing from you!

Elton John in Brighton
Fitzherberts pub hosted one of the biggest names in pop last month, and that was just at the bar! Elton John surprised locals when he strolled in to watch a small gig by up-and-coming Irish band the Strypes at the small New Road venue. Flanked with his ever-present entourage Elton tried his best to blend in at the 100-capacity gig which showcased the new band which has recently been watched by music greats such as Paul Weller, Miles Kane and Jeff Beck. With an average age of just 15 the Irish lads are certainly breaking boundaries with their mix of 1960s R’n’B covers and self-penned tracks already pulling in crowds as well as TV appearances. Elton’s interest may well have been sparked through their connection to Mercury Records – through which John released his remix album with Pnau, Good Morning To The Night, earlier this year. They look set to make big waves in 2013, and we’ll certainly be following them around as much as possible – if not for the music then at least for their star-studded audiences!
