Music: Sea Monsters 3
The annual music festival returns to the Prince Albert
Sea Monsters is the annual compilation and music festival, organised by One Inch Badge (OIB), a local promotions company who also have artists under management, a booking agency and a label. Ostensibly existing to ‘celebrate and promote our favourite local acts’’ they have also sourced plenty of up and coming talent. The result a seven-day orgy of some of the best local talent, all at the Prince Albert.
This year OIB have partnered each night with local music institutions such as Teen Creeps, Love Thy Neighbour, Source Magazine, Bizarro World, and Slip Jam B. And like the previous two incarnations of Sea Monsters, there’ll be an accompanying compilation CD featuring all the acts performing this year, which will be released in April.
As alway, there is a wide array of acts, further confirming Brighton as a ridiculously fertile ground for new music; from the theatrical splendour of Written In Waters, to the percussive indie soul of one woman cellist Abi Wade; from the country-rock tinged Holy Vessels to the incredible progressive math rockers The Physics House Band; and from the glacial textures of Phoria to the psychobilly grunge inspired The Witches, Sea Monsters presents an opportunity to see some truly inventive and original music, all emanating from Brighton.
Discounted week passes are available, the purchase of which includes a free copy of Seas Monsters 3, and tickets obtained form Resident Records means you’ll get a free copy of previous compilations, Sea Monsters 1 or 2.
