A27 Brighton bypass reopens after police persuade suicidal man not to jump from bridge

Two commuter roads were closed during the rush hour this morning (Wednesday 9 January) when a man threatened to jump from a bridge.

The A27 Brighton bypass was closed between Falmer and Hollingbury – and Ditchling Road was also closed while Sussex Police dealt the incident.

The man was on the bridge in Ditchling Road over the bypass for more than an hour while officers negotiated.

The stand-off ended when he agreed to go with the police and was taken to hospital.

The A27 eastbound was closed at Hollingbury at 6.40am and reopened just after 7am.

The westbound side of the road was closed along with Ditchling Road until just before 8am.
