John Murry + support from Pete Gow

It was cold in the basement of Sticky Mike’s and my boots stuck to the floor but it was worth braving the snow to hear two unique singer/songwriters.

The charm and storytelling skills of Pete Gow, from superior UK Americana band Case Hardin, warmed us with confidently performed songs of heartache and fists.

By contrast, John Murry’s brand of alt-country was a mesmerising mix of punk attitude and thrashing guitars. On stage he is puzzling, mumbling and twitchy, the sound even grungier than his acclaimed new album ‘The Graceless Age’.

Not for the faint-hearted. Dark, broken dreams never sounded so good.
