Arsonist sets fire to cars and allotments in Hove
An arsonist damaged cars and vans in several streets in Hove and started two blazes on allotments overnight.
Sussex Police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service are investigating the fires which were concentrated in Poets Corner and Hangleton.
Vehicles were set ablaze in Arthur Street, Byron Street, St Patrick’s Road, Lullington Avenue, Amherst Crescent and Holmes Avenue.
Four fire crews were sent with two other fires started at the Weald allotments.
The rampage happened between midnight and 2.30am this morning (Friday 25 January).
Sussex Police said: “Police and the fire service were called to many incidents over this period.
“The majority were vehicle fires but there were also cars that had had windows smashed and there was at least one report of rubbish being set alight.
“Extensive inquiries are already being undertaken to try and find those responsible and police would like to appeal for anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible.
“Fortunately no one was hurt in any of the incidents but between them thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
