Six girls and two boys arrested for vandalising Brighton and Hove bus

Eight teenagers have been arrested for vandalising two buses that they boarded in Brighton.

Sussex Police said: “A group of about 13 youths got on the number 7 bus in Eastern Road, Brighton.

“Some wrote on the chairs with marker pens, removed two hammers and punched holes in the ceiling before breaking a window.

“Thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to the bus.

“They left the bus and boarded the 1A bus where they broke the emergency glass causing the bus to be taken out of service.”

Police officers have been examining CCTV footage of the incidents which happened on the evening of Monday 14 January.

They have arrested eight teenagers for criminal damage – six girls aged between 13 and 18 and two boys aged 14 and 19.

Two people in the group – a girl, 18, and a boy of 13 – were also arrested for placing cones and road signs across Lewes Road, endangering other road users.

PC Nick Simmons: “This was mindless vandalism which has caused thousands of pounds worth of damage and taken two buses off the road for repair.

“We have CCTV evidence and, while eight young people have been arrested so far, we are seeking others.

“Such mindless actions will not be tolerated.”

He urged anyone with information to contact Sussex Police on 101.
