Erin McKeown
Since her last visit, McKeown has become heavily politicised as evidenced on new fan-funded release ‘Manifestra’. Armed only with a Gretsch guitar and a charming, witty persona the new songs covered domestic and global issues; think Billy Bragg but delivered with a country blues twist underpinned by inventive arrangements, as exemplified with ‘Proof’, an understated ballad which she also played and sang backwards. A selfless performer, the second half was formed of audience requests, including a gorgeous, bare-bones take on Beyonce and some fine Tin Pan Alley style country jazz from her back catalogue. A lovely way to end the weekend.
