Comedy: Big Cheer for Amaze! Ray Peacock Q&A

One half of podcasters Peacock & Gamble, and just one highlight at this year’s comedy gala for the local charity

How did you first hear about the charity Amaze?
“I once pretended to be married to Annabel Giles [who is involved with Amaze] on Twitter and ever since then she has treated me as though we were actually married. Demands for child support, arguments that I should pay into the house and every now and again roping me into doing free labour for deserving charities.”

The tour you last came to Brighton with was Peacock & Gamble Don’t Even Want To Be On Telly Anyway.
In that case, which rocks more – podcasting or live stand-up?

“In a nutshell, the shows with Ed are double the fun and half the money. The live shows me and Ed do – such as the one you mentioned – are not podcasts though. It is the absolute bane of both our lives that people think they are!”

Do you enjoy playing to a Brighton audience?
“The recent tour show was a very lovely audience so if that is indicative of where Brighton audiences currently reside on the niceness scale then yes. I am well aware that any audience niceness scale is sliding however…”

What does 2013 hold in store for you? Any realistic goals or far-reaching ambitions?
“The current Peacock & Gamble tour goes on till May, then there’ll be a new P&G show and there is some exciting radio stuff on the way. I shall basically continue to do as many different things under the umbrella of ‘entertainment’ as I can manage – I try to keep it mixed up as much as possible and not put all my eggs in one basket, partly out of a desire to not be bored and partly so my entire world doesn’t crash around me if one thing doesn’t work out. Ambition is frowned upon in my head as I am rather pessimistic by nature, so I look forward to being down to the last two or three for every audition I go to.”

How do you maintain such silky soft and luxurious hair?
“My hair is actually the shortest it has been in years at the moment, so it’s pretty easy to maintain. I use a very basic shampoo and as little product as possible. I cannot believe I just answered a hair and beauty question!”

What’s your favourite joke you’d expect to find on an old style lolly stick?
“Open the Tim Vine Joke Book on any page and that joke will do.”
