Killer Mike

Dirty South rapper Killer Mike could perhaps be described as Sweet, Sincere, or Saintly South instead if his passionate performance at The Haunt was anything to go by. I’ve never seen a rapper cry on stage before, and Mike happily announced that he was bawling twice, with his rapping a sort of communal primal therapy. Denouncing Ronald Reagan in a fiery political standout track, he considerately asked us Brits to think of Thatcher instead in order to muster the required bile. Backed by a proper turntablist, his fast, intelligent and intelligible rapping was excellent, and the crowd left buzzing.
