An Evening with Michael Portillo

It has to be said, Michael Portillo cuts a very charismatic figure in the flesh. Stylish, relaxed, erudite, intelligent but the main impression is humbleness. The rising star of the Conservative Party in the 80’s went from potential leader to abject humiliation at losing his seat at the ’97 general election. Reviled by most at the time, it is a testimant to the man that he has turned this opinion around, helped by his gentle but informative TV show on Bradshaw’s Victorian railway guide book plus other TV/radio ventures. These, his role/s in politics and background stories to his life made this a very entertaining evening. Informal yet incredibly engaging.
